Erik Fako is Senior Licensing Counsel at Hilco IP Merchant Banking. Mr. Fako joins Hilco with over 20 years of patent law experience. Prior to joining Hilco Mr. Fako was Senior Patent Counsel with Marquis Technologies providing various IP consulting services for clients. Previously, Mr. Fako was a founding member of Rockstar Consortium, which resulted from the acquisition in 2011 of the Nortel patent portfolio for $4.5B during Nortel’s bankruptcy. As Senior Licensing and Litigation Counsel, he worked to monetize the portfolio he helped develop at Nortel, covering mobile device, internet search and data networking technologies.

During Mr. Fako’s 10 plus years at Nortel, his roles spanned patent prosecution; portfolio development and management for Nortel’s Wireline, Optical and CTO business units; defending Nortel and its customers against patent assertions worldwide; and licensing Nortel’s patents. Prior to joining Nortel, Mr. Fako was in private practice working with various aspects of intellectual property including domestic and foreign patent and trademark prosecution, as well as patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation. Before attending law school, Mr. Fako obtained his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and worked at General Electric on the F/A 18 aircraft’s Flight Control Computer for the US Navy.
